Cheer Uniform Size Guide: Youth and Adult Sizing
Custom cheer uniforms are cut to your athlete’s actual measurements rather than a generic S/M/L label, which matters even more for youth sizes, since kids’ proportions vary widely at the same age. Here’s how sizing works and how to measure correctly before you order.
Why Generic S/M/L Doesn't Work Well for Cheer Uniforms
Cheer uniforms fit close to the body, unlike a t-shirt, so a size that’s technically correct on a chart can still sit wrong on an individual athlete, especially in youth sizes where a 7-year-old and a 9-year-old can wear the same size label but have very different proportions. Rather than relying on a generic size chart, we size each uniform against real measurements: chest, waist, hip, and height at minimum, torso length for bodysuits.
Youth Cheer Uniform Sizing
Youth sizing covers athletes roughly from Tiny and Mini divisions through Junior age groups. Because growth spurts and body proportions vary so much at these ages, we don’t rely on age alone to size a youth uniform. Send us each athlete’s chest, waist and height measurements (a soft tape measure and a helper make this easy at home), and we size individually rather than guessing from age or grade.
For a squad order, a simple roster with each athlete’s name and three measurements is enough for us to size the whole team accurately in one pass.
How to Measure for a Cheer Uniform
Chest – measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level and snug but not tight.
Waist – measure around the natural waistline, typically just above the belly button.
Hip – measure around the fullest part of the hips.
Height – measure standing straight without shoes.
Take measurements over a fitted top rather than a bulky sweater, and have the athlete stand naturally rather than pulling in or puffing out. If in doubt, measure twice.
Adult and All-Star Team Sizing
The same approach applies for Senior and adult-level athletes. Because competition uniforms are form-fitting, an accurate chest, waist and hip measurement matters more than reading off a standard adult size label. For mixed-age squads, we size every athlete individually within the same order, so a single squad order can include both youth and adult sizes without any extra steps on your end.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer youth and kids sizes?
Yes. We size youth uniforms individually from measurements rather than a fixed age-based chart, since proportions vary widely at younger ages.
What measurements do you need to size a uniform?
Chest, waist, hip and height at minimum. For bodysuits, torso length helps too. Send these with your design request and we’ll confirm sizing before cutting.
Can one squad order include both youth and adult sizes?
Yes, each athlete on a roster is sized individually within the same order, so mixed-age squads aren’t a problem.
What if I don't have exact measurements yet?
Send us what you have and we’ll ask for anything missing before production starts. A physical sample is also produced for approval before your full order is cut, giving you a chance to confirm fit.
